Have met Mr Polychronis 3 times now. Unfortunately lacks attention to detail and isn't prepared for planned appointments. Becomes frustrated when general concerns and questions are raised relating to the illness & discussions about options. His frustration is also visible through facial expressions (face pulling) and body language. Can be very sharp with responses, so his soft skills need improvement. He is not really in the room and appears to be distracted as if he needs to be elsewhere. This is not the expectation of a Medical Oncologist interacting with unwell cancer patients and their carers/family members. My opinions may sound like a character assassination against Mr Polychronis, but this is the reality of the behaviours witnessed across 3 separate appointments. Things are hard enough for cancer patients. Time to change.

Dr Polychronis is a wonderful doctor. He has been treating me for lung cancer for 4 years. He always has a smile and makes even bad news sound not so bad. He is careful with his words and never promises unachievable targets. He’s straight forward and honest. His reassurance is always welcome too. Even on days when his clinics are busy and he’s rushing around, he has time for a quick joke and an encouraging word. All of us, his patients, in his busy waiting room have only praise for him. I’m lucky that Dr Lok referred me to him.

My experience of Dr Polychronis was totally different to the other 2 reviewers and I was surprised to read their comments. Dr P has been treating my wife with lung cancer for the last 5 years. From day 1 he showed huge interest in my wife's case and pushed for access to the latest state of the art treatments in the NHS. We offered to move private, but he re-assured us there was nothing better she could access privately. He has always shown respect to our wishes and views and always listened to our concerns and anxieties. He is never hurried during consultations and always explains new developments in lay terms so we are both clear on whats happening. He's straight forward, very intelligent and honest, never raising our expectations unrealistically. He has kept my wife alive for more than 5 years with stage 4 lung cancer. As for newspaper articles, read with a pinch of salt. They'll write any thing to sell papers.

Dr P is an excellent oncologist. Up to date with the latest cancer treatments. Always approachable and interested to help deal with any issues he was presented. He treated my wife for bowel cancer for 5 years. I highly recommend him.

My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer the early part of 2016, after being under the care of Doctor Roberts for a short while Doctor Polychronis became his cancer Doctor. From the outset I asked Doctor Polychronis if he could offer the same treatments as the Royal Marsden knowing the the cancer my husband had would be difficult to treat Doctor Polychronis said "yes exactly the same as the Marsden". However after only a couple of months of chemo we were told it wasn't working, Doctor Polychronis had nothing more to offer and nothing to say as we left his office in silence and with no hope. Having knowledge of the Royal Marsden we contacted our GP and was referred to the Marsden Sutton the care and respect shown to my husband was so so different. But we had wasted time believing Doctor Polychronis in the first place. On the internet it states Polychronis worked at the Marsden maybe it would do him some good to go back there to remind him how to treat patients.
